Spring Fayre May 2008

Spring Fayre May 2008

A bright sunny day greeted volunteers as we met to prepare for the annual Spring Fayre at Shepperton. It proved to be a fantastic day as the local Shepperton people gave us tremendous support raising a total of £927 which will be used in the protection and maintenance of heathland in South East England. Many thanks to all our volunteers who helped to man the stalls, provided goodies and generally made the day happen. Special thanks goes to Alan Pugh for organising this event and to Diane Vowles for her work with the Schools' Painting Competition.

The Annual Schools Painting Competition proved a great success with children from St Nicholas, Saxon School, Littleton C of E School and Manor Mead school entering. The winners were picked by Mayor and Mayoress Hirst from Spelthorne Borough Council. Not an easy task with almost 700 children taking part and a total of 48 pictures in the final judging.

Winners of the Painting competition were - Age Group 8 - 11
First: Phoebe Davies, from Saxon School, picture of a Robin
Second: Craig Littlemore, from St Nicholas School, picture of a Cormorant

Winners of the Age Group 5 - 7
First: Mary Jane Babington, from St Nicholas School, provided a collage
Second: Freya Dight, from Littleton Church of England School, picture of an Owl

Many thanks to Thorpe Park who once again kindly sponsored this event with each winner receiving 2 tickets to Thorpe Park and the RSPB donated a book to the winners and the Runners up.

Prizes for the Raffle were sponsored by Nauticalia, Wyvevale at Addlestone, Bluebeckers of Shepperton, Garsons Farm, Notcutts Garden Centre Staines, RSPB member Ron Jackson made a fantastic Bird Table from recycled wood.

Many thanks to the people of Shepperton and the surrounding area who supported The RSPB on the day. Fantastic!
