Field Meeting at Shellness

Sunday, 17 February 2008
Unlike the last trip to the area, we got there just after high tide, so we were not cut off. On the walk to the point, we had good views of Turnstone, Sanderling and a few Ringed Plover. We also noted Oystercatcher and Black-tailed Godwit, leaving the high tide roost. As the tide dropped, to expose the mussel beds, we found Knot, Grey Plover, Curlew and Dunlin. At Harty we saw Hen and Marsh Harriers, a Snipe, 2 Green Sandpiper, and Golden Plover. On the way to the meeting I noticed Grey Partridge on the edge of a field. 55 species seen on a pleasant day.
