Our 2009 coach trips - part 2

Sunday, 10 May 2009
Our second trip of the year to the east started with an early morning visit to Little Paxton Gravel Pits. Our early arrival meant that not only were many nightingales in full song but several were showing themselves as well, much to the delight of everyone. Our second stop was the Society's new reserve at Lakenheath. Bitterns were heard booming, golden orioles were seen flying between groups of poplar by a few of us, bearded tits showed well and up to 30 hobbies were counted in the air at the same time. The day was rounded off by a visit to nearby Weeting Heath but the breeding stone curlews there were not showing themselves, save briefly to a lucky few.
