Short-eared owl sitting on the ground

AGM 2008

AGM meeting held at the United Reformed Church Hall, Mill Lane, Broxbourne. The meeting was started at 8.00pm by the chairman, Terry Smith. The previous years minutes were read out and agreed.

Leaders Report

Terry reported another successful year for the group, despite the cancellation of two events. All outing and walks had been well supported. He thanked Mike Oakland, local walks organiser and Barrie Stockwell, coach trips organiser, and all the walk leaders who helped make the trips so successful.

He also thanked the refreshment team of Chris, Jim & Ken and their deputies, Rosie & Toby for the excellent Xmas raffle. Geoff for running the 100 Club, Derrick & Phil for organizing the group holidays and his wife, Ann, for organising the programme, newsletter, website etc - and to everyone else who helped at our events and with the delivery of our newsletter & programme.

Programme 2008/9

A varied programme is planned for next season, with another Meet the Group event at Rye Meads in November 2008 & 2 more family events at Fishers Green are planned jointly with the Wildlife Explorers group from Rye Meads.

Accounts

Toby Spencer announced another successful year of fundraising, £5,000 was donated to the RSPB, plus £415.31 RSPB Sales profit for 2006/7. He noted that this was a lower figure than the previous year which had included the sponsored birdwatch profit figure of £1518.61. Attendances at meetings were a little lower than last year, but the Xmas raffle and Quiz had increased, Toby thanked Phil & Dorothy Blatcher for organising the Quiz. There were no questions from the floor.

Committee

Terry thanked Anne Betts and Angela Dobson who have retired from the committee, both their posts remain vacant. Terry then announced the nominations for the committee posts.

Rosie Bell and Barrie Stockwell were nominated for re-election to the committee and the nominations were accepted with a show of hands.

Geoff Brown was co-opted to the committee as our new 100 Club organizer after the last AGM, and was formally nominated and accepted with a show of hands.

Any other business

Phil Blatcher stated that regarding the Quiz, thanks should also go to Ann Smith for setting the quiz questions and Terry Smith for all his help on the night.

The meeting closed at 8.08pm

John Olley gave a talk on Owls of the World, which was very well received. Thanks to Helena Spencer who organised the Plant bring'n buy.
