School children pond dipping

August Newsround

Bird News

At Fishers Green there are still some common terns on the rafts, mostly just loafing about but last weekend I saw at least one youngster that was still being fed by its parent. A pair of Great crested grebes were feeding two well grown young at the back of the lake, viewed from the Bittern Information Point hide.

Green sandpipers, greenshanks and Little egrets have been seen recently either on the Goosefield or on the weir. Sadly, the Crannum hide was vandalised and burnt down recently, LVRPA is deciding whether to replace it or not. This hide gave good views over the Goosefield and also over the farm fields. The new Grand Weir hide should be opening in September.

At Hall Marsh scrape recently, there has been both green and common sandpipers, with 50+ lapwings.

This week there was a dunlin at Rye Meads RSPB reserve, from the Tern hide, with twenty little grebes seen, and up to eight green sandpipers from the Ashby hide, well worth a visit.
