Children birding at Titchwell Marsh

Group weekend in North Norfolk report - 28th to 30th October

Another dry, mild weekend, with a southerly wind throughout, was enjoyed by 23 of us. We were based at the Linksway Hotel, Hunstanton again. The weekend was organised by Phil Blatcher.

Approx 95 species were seen by the group, highlights:

Whooper & Bewick Swans at Welney WWT Reserve. Pomarine Skua, Barn Owl and Stonechat at Holme NNT. Marsh Harrier, 5,000+ Pink Footed Geese at Holkham Freshmarsh. Slavonian Grebes, 25+ Snow Buntings, Common Scoter and Gannets at Holkham Bay. Common Buzzard, Egyptian Geeses and Great Spotted Woodpecker at Holkham Park. Hen Harrier (ringtail) and Kingfisher at Burnham Norton. American Golden Plover at Cley NNT. Great White Egret, Velvet Scoter, Eider, Sparrowhawk, Brambling, Cetti's Warbler, Avocet, Jack Snipe and Water Rail at Titchwell RSPB Reserve.

Trip Report of Coach outing to Dunwich & Benacre, Suffolk

The weather was very good, dry, warm (18c max) with hazy sunshine all day and an easterly breeze (10mph). The trip was organised by Phil Blatcher.

A total of 85 species were seen, highlights included:
Sooty Shearwater, Gannet, Little Egret, Brent, Barnacle and Greylag Geese, Eider, Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Red-legged Partridge, Avocet, Oystercatcher, Spotted Redshank, Golden and Grey Plovers, Kittiwake, Razorbill, Guillemot, Swallow, House Martin, Stonechat, Wheatear, Black Redstart, Cetti's Warbler and Dartford Warbler.

Adult and child birdwatching

Trip Report - Morning walk at Bowyers Water & Hall Marsh

18 of us attended this walk, with a bright and sunny start, becoming cloudier during the morning. This walk was led by Mick Oakland.

A total of 41 species were seen:

Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Mute Swan, Black Swan, Greylag Goose, Canada Goose, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Shoveller, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Moorhen, Coot, Lapwing, Black Headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Green Woodpecker, Gt Spotted Woodpecker, House Martin, Grey Wagtail, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Goldcrest, Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Jay, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch and Reed Bunting.

Other wildlife seen:

Migrant Hawker and Common Darter Dragonflies, and Red Admiral Butterfly.
