Adult and child birdwatching

Coach Outing to Slimbridge WWT Centre

The weather for this outing was dry, but cold and foggy. The fog partially lifted in the afternoon, but soon came down again. 28 people were on this trip and despite the poor visibility, a total of 59 species were seen:

Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Whooper Swan, Mute Swan, Pink-Footed Goose, Greylag Goose, White-fronted Goose, Barnacle Goose, Shelduck, Canada Goose, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Pintail, Shoveler, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye, Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Merlin, Pheasant, Water Rail, Moorhen, Coot, Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit, Curlew,
Black Headed Gull, Common Gull, Greater Black-backed Gull, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Meadow Pipit, Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Starling, Magpie, Jackdaw, Rook, Carrion Crow, Wren, Dunnock, Goldcrest, Robin, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Fieldfare, Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Treecreeper, Chaffinch, Greenfinch and Goldfinch.

RSPB membership pack

Annual Bazaar

We held our annual Christmas bazaar on November 12th at Leaside Hall, Ware, and are pleased to report that we raised over £600 for the RSPB.

We also sold £145 of bird feed etc on behalf of Rye Meads RSPB Reserve and the RSPB Sales table sold £173.47 of goods. We also collected 18 name gathering cards from youngsters who entered the draw for a cuddly toy!

Great tit perched in small tree

Local Afternoon Walk at Amwell Gravel Pits

11 attended this afternoon walk, in persistent rain and wind with poor visibility.

Despite all this, a total of 32 species were seen or heard:

Gt Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Mute Swan, Canada Goose, Mallard, Gadwall, Wigeon, Teal, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Pochard, Pheasant, Moorhen, Coot, Black Headed Gull, Herring Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Great Black Backed Gull, Common Gull, Woodpigeon, Kingfisher (h), Blackbird, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Wren, Starling, Magpie, Jackdaw and Carrion Crow.
