Report of Car Trip to Oare Marsh KWT Reserve

14 members went to this Kent Wildlife Trust Reserve, situated on the Swale Estuary. The visit was organised by Derrick Ling.

It was a lovely, dry, sunny day. Fresh winds to start with, moderating by lunchtime. The Reserve covers an area of traditional grazing marsh, reed bed and salt marsh, dissected by fresh water and brackish dykes.

68 species were seen:

Little Grebe, Cormorant, Little Egret, Grey Heron, Mute Swan, Greylag Goose, Canada Goose, Shelduck, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Marsh Harrier, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Kestrel, Merlin, Hobby, Water Rail, Moorhen, Coot, Oystercatcher, Avocet, Ringed Plover, Golden Plover,
Grey Plover, Lapwing, Knot, Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Dunlin, Ruff, Snipe, Bar-tailed Godwit,
Black-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel, Curlew, Redshank, Greenshank, Green Sandpiper, Black-headed Gull, Herring Gull, Great black-backed Gull, Stock Dove, Woodpigeon, Kingfisher, Sand Martin, House Martin, Swallow, Meadow Pipit, Yellow Wagtail, Pied Wagtail, Wren (H), Whinchat, Wheatear, Cetti's Warbler,
Willow Warbler, Bearded Tit, Blue Tit, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Starling, House Sparrow, Goldfinch, Linnet, Reed Bunting.

Other wildlife seen:

Common Seal, Marsh Frog, Rabbit, Small White Butterfly, Migrant Hawker and Common Darter Dragonflies.
