Terry Smith, group leader, chaired the meeting, the minutes of the 2006 AGM were read and accepted.
Terry began his report by stating that the group had just had a very successful year, all our events had been well attended and he thanked the organisers and helpers for all their hard work during the year. He also thanked the committee for their support, especially Paul and Rosie for their work making the Christmas draw so successful again.
The programme for 2007 - 8 is now almost complete, another 'Meet the Group day' is planned for November at Rye Meads reserve. There will also be a Racenight, again at Rye Meads, in November and our popular Sponsored Birdwatch is planned for next Spring. We also plan to have two family events with the local Rye Meads Wildlife explorers group, a new venture for us.
Treasurers report:
Paul Coppi announced an excellent year of fundraising by the group, £6,876 was raised, with the RSPB Sales profit figure still to come. Our donations were to:-
Rye Meads - improvement to paths and access, enhancement of CCTV cameras & equipment, and funding of the joint bio-diversity plan with the Lee Valley Park.
The Lodge - to monitor breeding birds at Sandy Heath
Education dept - To fund 6 Wildlife Explorer Roadshows.
Terry then presented Paul with a limited edition print of Avocets, by Robert Gilmour, on behalf of the RSPB, to mark his retirement as Treasurer.
Committee elections:
Ann Smith, Derrick Ling and Anne Betts were all re-elected to the committee for a further three years.
Toby Spencer was elected to the committee as Treasurer, for a period of five years. Mike Oakland was elected as local walks organiser for three years.
Any Other Business:
It was suggested that a representative from the joint bio-diversity group should be asked to come along and update us on their work.
Phil Blatcher proposed a vote of thanks to Derrick Ling for his many years of service as the local walks organiser.
The meeting closed at 8.12pm
