Group News Roundup:
NOVEMBER began with a walk around Cornmill Meadows, admiring the Autumn colours as well as the wildlife. Our coach trip to Pulborough Brooks RSPB reserve saw good views of pintail and other wildfowl. At our group meeting, Peter Robinson presented his entertaining talk on 'Wild in Devon', showing us how the BBC's 'Springwatch' was produced. We were able to donate a further £1,000 to the RSPB, towards work being carried out at Lakenheath Reserve in Suffolk.
Our local walk in DECEMBER was at Dobbs Weir in poor weather but goldeneye still gave good views. The car trip to the Brecks proved very popular, the sight of 20,000 starlings coming in to roost at SWT Lackford Lakes warmed everyone up on a cold afternoon. Our Christmas meeting was another enjoyable social evening. Ted Bell gave us a short tour of the 'A to Z of Herbal Medicine' and managed to fit in a few birds, some drink and sporting info! Thanks to everyone who brought along some food to share. We then drew our various raffle winners:
The Christmas draw main winners were:
1st Mr A W Studd of Hertford
2nd Mrs R Pratt of Waltham Cross
The six monthly 100 Club draw winners were:
1st Peter Troughton
2nd Angela Dobson
Much to everyone's amusement, the 'Save the Albatross' toy raffle was won by group leader Terry Smith, who promptly donated the cuddly toy as a prize for our Quiz on February 2nd. The lucky Christmas Quiz winners were rewarded with chocolate bars. We were able to announce a further donation of £1,000 to the RSPB, towards work being carried out in the Eastern region with Harriers.
