Dragonfly walk at Kings Mead, Ware

Dragonfly walk at Kings Mead, Ware

Sunday, 8 July 2007

Alan Reynolds led todays walk, seven intrepid explorers joined Alan to investigate the wilder parts of King's Meads!

For the first time for quite a while now the weather was both sunny and warm with just a slight breeze, ideal viewing conditions for dragonflies.

A total of 10 species were seen by the group - unfortunately the recent period of wind and rain had significantly reduced dragonfly numbers but we were still able to get good views of 10 species:-

Banded Demoiselle, Azure Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, Brown Hawker, Emperor Dragonfly, Broad-bodied Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Common Darter and Ruddy Darter.

Thanks to Alan for leading this 'safari', donations were collected for the Herts & Middx Wildlife Trust
