Local Walk around Nazeing Pits

Male goldeneye

Sunday, 2 December 2007

Six intrepid members braved the Met Office weather forecast to attend this walk! The weather was wet and windy but not quite so bad as forecast.

The highlights were the good views of Goldeneye , the pits are known for their wintering Goosander but unfortunately we were unable to locate them on this occasion.

A total of 30 bird species were seen by the group:

Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Mute Swan, Canada Goose, Gadwall, Mallard, Shoveler, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Moorhen, Coot, Black-headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail, Blackbird, Fieldfare, Redwing, Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Bullfinch.

Many thanks to Ruth Martin for leading this walk.
