Car trip to RSPB Rainham Marshes & EWT Thorndon Country Park

Male green woodpecker feeding on ground

Saturday, 12 January 2008

Our leader today was Phil Blatcher.

We were lucky to have a fine sunny day, max 7 deg C, with just a light breeze, the light was very good.
27 supporters joined this trip, for some this was a first visit to the reserve and the new centre.

59 species were seen by our group.

Highlights at Rainham:

Little egret, barnacle goose (28), pintail, sparrowhawk, ruff (1), black-tailed godwit, snipe, kingfisher, green woodpecker, stonechat, linnet and peregrine.

Members who stayed on further into the afternoon also saw short-eared owls.

Highlights at Thorndon:

Coal tit, siskin, goldcrest, jay, mistle thrush

Many thanks to Phil for leading this trip.
