Coach trip to RSPB Dungeness and Dungeness NNR

Saturday, 29 March 2008

Our leader today was Terry Smith, with help from Phil Blatcher and Mike Oakland.

30 supporters were on the coach, on a very windy but dry morning at Dungeness NNR, but we were more sheltered for a time at RSPB Dungeness in the afternoon, with a light shower around 3.30. Overall, a very pleasant day.

Highlights:

Dungeness NNR:
Excellent views of a pair of peregrines displaying near the power station, a pair of black redstarts, at least 4 firecrests seen or heard by the group around the Observatory and an Iceland gull seen at the 'Patch' by most of the group.

RSPB Dungeness:
A Water pipit and a Slavonian grebe, both coming into summer plumage, (picture courtesy of Ted Bell), a little gull and some lucky people spotted a tree sparrow near the entrance to the reserve.
