The walk set out with a good covering of snow on the ground but at the end of the walk it had mainly thawed. The snow had two advantages, one it made the views picturesque but perhaps more importantly it kept the golfers away and eliminated the risk of being hit by a flying golf ball!
Not many birds were seen and no summer migrants. The highlight was good views of 3 Buzzards.
A total of 18 bird species were seen by the group:
Goldcrest, blue tit, great tit, robin, dunnock, chaffinch, skylark, song thrush, blackbird, mistle thrush, jackdaw, rook, crow, wood pigeon, red-legged partridge, lapwing, kestrel and buzzard.
Plants:
The pasque flowers were found in the snow but not at their best. Mid April will probably be the optimum time to visit. Other plants found were cowslip, sweet violet and periwinkle.
Many thanks to Barrie Stockwell for leading todays walk.
