Car Trip To Isle of Sheppey (Capel Fleet & Elmley RSPB Reserve)

Derrick Ling led todays trip, 13 supporters joined him on a dry day with sunny intervals, but very windy and cold.

Highlights:

A long wait watching a large raptor sitting on a hay bale resulted in the confirmation of a Rough-legged Buzzard, ring-tailed Hen Harriers were at the same site, as were several Marsh Harriers and a small flock of Bewick's Swans. A total of 64 species were seen or heard plus additionally, Short-eared Owl and Green Woodpecker were seen by some people while "in transit" on the Isle of Sheppey.

Little Grebe, Great-crested Grebe, Cormorant, Little Egret, Grey Heron, Mute Swan, Bewick's Swan, White-fronted Goose, Greylag Goose, Canada Goose, Shelduck, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Pintail, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Rough-legged Buzzard, Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine, Red-legged Partridge, Pheasant, Moorhen, Coot, Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, Golden Plover, Grey Plover, Lapwing, Dunlin, Ruff, Bar-tailed Godwit, Black-tailed Godwit, Curlew, Redshank, Green Sandpiper, Turnstone, Black-headed Gull, Common Gull, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Stock Dove, Woodpigeon, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Robin, Blackbird, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Magpie, Rook, Carrion Crow, Starling, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch and Reed Bunting.
