The walk was led by Volunteer Warden, Barrie Stockwell, who introduced members to the reserve, as for most people it was their first visit.
Early arrivals were rewarded with views of a kingfisher on the Mimram. Other highlights were 2 blackcaps singing and a sparrowhawk overhead. Green and greater spotted woodpeckers were heard but not seen.
Following this the group moved on to Hertingfordbury and after a short walk looked over a small lake. A mandarin duck was disturbed by the leaders of the group but circled round and was seen by more people. On the return walk, 3 Buzzards were seen close by, giving an aerial display.
36 species of bird were seen in total.
Also noted were comma, peacock and small white butterflies and 3 muntjac.
Many thanks to Barrie for leading this walk.
