ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING plus 'THE CORNISH CHOUGH PROJECT'

Location: Millenium Hall, Seavington
Postcode: TA19 0QH (Google map)

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING followed by an illustrated talk on 'THE CORNISH CHOUGH PROJECT' presented by Claire Mucklow, RSPB Cornwall Projects Officer. After a long decline due to habitat loss and persecution, the last chough disappeared from Cornwall (and England) in 1973. They had last successfully bred in 1947. In 2001 there was a small influx of wild choughs in southern England and three birds stayed on the Lizard in Cornwall. Since 2002, the now famous pioneering pair have nested every year raising a total of 32 young so far. Many survive and some have raised their own young. We can look forward to Claire giving us an update on the choughs and the work being done with landowners to provide them with suitable habitat along the coastal fringe.
