Group Leader's report - March 2011

The Group has had a very good start to the year with two excellent indoor meetings, both of which attracted a large audience. In January we welcomed Nick Tomlinson (RSPB Site Manager) who gave us an informative and enthusiastic presentation on the exciting changes that are taking place at Radipole Reserve in Weymouth. The future looks bright for the birds and other wildlife on this reserve, which is situated in the centre of the town. Radipole is well worth a visit any time of the year. More details can be found on the main RSPB website.

Spring was in the air at our February meeting when David Kjear from Warminster spoke to us on 'English Wildlife - Spring and Summer'. After such a long cold winter David's excellent digital photography of the wildlife we can see within 60 miles of Seavington (where we meet) was truly amazing. Included in the talk was an insight into the Great Bustard Project on Salisbury Plain. Sometime within the next year we are hoping to organise a group field trip to see the bustards.

All the events listed on our website are open to the general public. Why not come along to one of our meetings, when you will be made most welcome.
