Coppicing hazel © Anthony Hopwood
All the work undertaken is vital in maintaining the rich diversity of plant and animal life in this beautiful RSPB woodland reserve.
Volunteers that attended regularly enjoyed the fresh air, sunshine (hopefully!), ravens and buzzards, deer, coffee, lunch under a blue sky (hopefully!), physical work and the knowledge that they were helping the environment, plants, birds and other creatures. Oh and many enjoyed a hot bath afterwards (at home of course!).
Dates for your diary -
2012/2013 winter season - dates will be up on the website soon.
Dates for next season's work will also all be on the EVENTS section of the website, month by month.
Supervised training is provided by the warden, Toby Branston. We meet at 9.30am in the car park at the northern end of the wood, one and a half miles north of Sixpenny Handley on the Bowerchalke road (SU 003195). Bring a packed lunch if you can stay all day, but do come if you can only spare a shorter time. Gloves and tools and tuition are provided. We tend to stop work at about 15.30 and leave the wood by 16.00 or so.
Don't forget that we always end the season at the end of March with a brilliant lunch-time barbecue, on both the last Wednesday and the last Sunday.
