CHEW VALLEY LAKES 22nd SEPTEMBER 2007

Hobby chasing dragonflies

Saturday, 22 September 2007

A very select band of just 7 members attended the Chew Valley Lake visit in Somerset on yet another fine and settled day. Amongst the 54 species recorded, as one might expect, wildfowl species predominated with 4 Pintail showing particularly well at one point. Kingfishers never fail to command attention when they appear as was the case when 1 perched on a bough overhanging the water near one of the hides. At the end of the afternoon, a low flying Hobby hunting dragonflies over the reed-beds, provided a spell of high speed entertainment - that is as long as you are not a dragonfly!
