Trip reports
Carsington Water 25th January 2009

Sunday, 1 March 2009
The group's first trip to this venue, the 9th largest reservoir in England, was rewarded with some good sightings, the best of which was great northern diver. Two individuals were present and, following decent views earlier in the day, before leaving from the visitors' centre, we were able to pick them out in the bright sunshine halfway down the reservoir. An unexpected find was tawny owl - two birds were found roosting near one of the hides and they remained unmoved despite the interest they generated. Other birds seen included scaup, ruddy duck, tree sparrow, siskin and willow tit. Fifty species were spotted in all, making this a site worthy of a return visit.
