Trip reports
Titchwell 22nd February 2009

Monday, 16 March 2009
Things got off to a good start with bramblings on the feeder next to the car park and several members of the group saw barn owl quartering the fields west of the footpath whilst making their way to the beach. We had arrived at low tide and so were fortunate to see a total of sixteen wader species including golden plover, knot, ringed plover, sanderling, spotted redshank and both godwits. The avocets had started to return to the reserve with at least sixty indviduals about. Unusually, very little was present on the sea, red-breasted merganser being the most noteworthy bird. However, the highlight of the day was the presence of two very approachable snow buntings (one male and one female) near the creek east of the seawatch point. Few raptors were visible but a female marsh harrier gave good views and a merlin was spotted flying east along the shoreline. The barn owl put on a display as we were making our way back to the coach and red-legged partridge were in the field next to the exit as we left. As usual Titchwell had provided a good day's birding.
