Trip reports
Pagham Harbour 22nd March 2009

Friday, 27 March 2009
The weather on this trip was fine and sunny and several red kites and buzzards were seen on the journey down. We arrived as the tide was going out and the harbour area was rather quiet. Curlew, cormorant, shelduck and oystercatcher were most numerous with avocet and ringed plover being the species of note. Offshore, a female long-tailed duck was present but her habit of diving every few seconds made her elusive. As the tide receded further, waders gathered on the beach, amongst them turnstone, bar-tailed godwit, dunlin, knot and over thirty grey plovers. The appearance of chiffchaff and willow warbler indicated spring was on its way.
