The effort put into our stand at Middleton Hall Spring Birdwatching Fair was repaid with measurable success in over £200 raised from plant sales alone, with another £40+ from other sales, including second-hand nature books and £50 from pin-badges. The less-measurable success was talking to so many interested (and interesting) people, many from just outside our official catchment area yet nearer to Sutton Coldfield than any other Local Group, who seemed really keen to come to indoor meetings and on coach trips - the real success will be seen when they arrive at our door! Working closely with the Middleton Lakes Reserve team was also very productive - the interest in the RSPB the Middleton Lakes project has raised in the area is huge, with a spin-off to us in more local members. Thanks to everyone that helped - Denise and John, Paul B and Susan, who were there with me for the whole two days, and Martin W, Janet and Jill who spent some time with us - a job well done! Come and Meet Us - and get your garden stocked up!
Last year, the Group made over £200 from members' plants, with stands at three events; this year, we are determined to beat that figure! Come and see us at the Middleton Hall bird fair, 15/16th May and at our own event at New Hall Mill (see events listing for details). There should be a good range of home-grown plants available, as well as all the usual sales, RSPB information and details of what we do as a Group and how to take part. We would love to see you - if you would like to contribute some plants, bring them along, and if you would like to help us, again, just show up!
