Several days of continuous rain did not bode well for the Taunton group annual nightjar walk at Staple Plain recently. Thurlbear has a nature reserve that is not only local to Taunton but also offers the opportunity to see many species that are normally mainly found on chalk downs, the very habitat that the reserve has been constructed to respesent. Twelve members, led by Terry Mullins, recently held a midweek trip there and were rewarded with a day of fine weather and an excellent selection of flora and fauna. More...

Clear views over the Bristol Channel from Stolford created a panorama right around from Brean Down past Steep Holm, Flat Holm and the coast of South Wales to the distant high cliffs of Exmoor on the North coast of Somereset. Exceptionally clear conditions added to a great day for the 14 Taunton members, led by Evan Williams, who met there and walked along the sea wall and around the power station at Hinkley Point. More...

Gathering at the car park, fifteen members led by Evan Williams, headed up the estuary on a bright and calm day. There were large numbers of wigeon gathered on both the river and the sea and among other bird species were teal, mallard, shelduck, curlew, little egret and the bonus of a single whimbrel. More...
