However, some interesting birds were seen, including a regular overfly of ravens recognised by their large size and diamond-shaped tail and harsh gutteral calls.
Several willow warblers were moving about through the stunted trees, among which were a high percentage of young birds, but high point was when a singing grasshopper warbler, sounding very much like the high-pitched noise of a tiny machine was heard.
Other notable species found included both whinchat and stonechat and an outstanding male redstart that flew across the path.
The were also a large group of mistle thrushes flying among the bracken, estimated to number as many as fourteen individuals.
A family party of bullfinches was sighted comprising mainly of youngsters but accompanied by a beautifully coloured male, and a grey wagtail was spotted working its way along the stream.
Quite a number of chaffinches and greenfinches were noted plus song thrush and blackbird, but overall it was thought to be a quiet birding day.
