Bough Beech Reservoir & Nature Reserve

Bough Beech nature reserve is situated between Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Edenbridge adjacent to the reservoir and run by the Kent Wildlife Trust. Most of the reserve is open water, important for many species of wildfowl with over 150 bird species recorded on a regular basis.

In summer and autumn there are exposed areas which provide feeding and nesting places for waders such as Lapwing, Redshank, Sandpipers and Little Ringed Plover. There are nature trails and wooded areas close to the Oast House visitor centre. The visitor centre sells snacks and drinks and displays information about sightings. Outside there are viewing points over the reservoir and views over the orchards where birds can be spotted coming in to feed. Additionally there are toilet facilities and benches.

A small distance from the visitor centre is a causeway. This is a good spot to see Great Crested Grebe and Kingfisher as well as other regular waders and wildfowl. The reservoir is famous for its migrating Ospreys in spring and Autumn. Other rarities include Spotted Sandpiper, Long Tailed Duck and Little Crake.

Bough Beech two miles south of Ide Hill near Sevenoaks and the nearest train station is Penshurst (2 miles).
