Puffin with sandeels in beak

RSPB SEABIRD CRUISES, BEMPTON

The RSPB will again be running 2 different bird watching cruises from Bridlington Harbour, one during spring/early summer and the other during late summer/autumn 2010. These trips give an excellent opportunity to view these enigmatic birds from their natural environment - the sea.

The dates for the 2010 Seabird Cruises have now finalised as follows:-

THE GANNET & PUFFIN cruises sail on the Yorkshire Belle from Bridlington Harbour, around Flamborough Head and up to the spectacular chalk cliffs at Bempton, where passengers can get very close to the hundreds of thousands of nesting seabirds there. These include gannets, puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots, shags, herring gulls, fulmars and razorbills. These trips last for about 3 hours.

THE SKUA AND SHEARWATER cruises sail out from Bridlington Harbour into the North Sea, searching for migrating seabirds on their long journeys south. The birds we would hope to see include shearwaters, skuas, gannets, fulmars, black-backed gulls, terns etc. These trips last are slightly longer to allow time to go in search of these exciting seabirds, at around 3.5 hours.

We are delighted to say that, in these hard economic times, we have managed to keep the ticket prices the same as last year, ie. £15 per adult, £7.50 per child under 14 and £37.50 per family (2 adults + 2 children).

Protect the Birds During the Cold Period

Protect the Birds During the Cold Period

Britain is currently undergoing its most prolonged period of cold weather for over a decade. In such circumstances, it is important to be especially careful in minimising any unnecessary disturbance of wild birds, especially the wildfowl, waders and other waterbirds that visit our coastal and inland wetlands in such internationally important numbers. In frozen conditions, birds not only need to expend more energy to maintain their body temperature, but food becomes much more difficult for them to obtain. In such cases, disturbance by people only adds further to the physical stress on birds, and such additional disturbance may result in increased mortality.

Many thanks for your co-operation.
