Star birds include breeding bitterns, marsh harriers and bearded tits, all of which are birds requiring special protection.
The reserve divides into two main areas. Firstly the marshlands, which are home to the bitterns, harriers and bearded tits and secondly an area of salt marsh and scrapes which attracts avocet, waders and ducks.
The reserve has a shop selling bird requisites, outdoor clothing, binoculars and telescopes and also a café serving morning coffee, homemade light lunches and afternoon teas.
The reserve is easy to find, from junction 35 on the M6 follow the link road to the A6, turn right (north) at the roundabout and you will soon pick-up sign posts to Leighton Moss.
