WOLVERHAMPTON RSPB Stalwarts step down...
12 December 2007
Two long serving members of the RSPB Wolverhampton Local Group were honoured for their efforts at the Christmas meeting, held at the Newman Centre, Tettenhall this week.
Group leader Ian Wiltshire and his wife Helena, have been active members of the group for over 25 years and are now stepping down from official duties, but will still remain as members.
Mr and Mrs Wiltshire, who live in Willenhall, have been responsible for meeting and greeting visitors to the Sandwell Valley RSPB Nature reserve where Mr Wiltshire is a volunteer for viewing and hide duties at the centre. The couple have organised coach and trip bookings over the years and co-ordinated fundraising events, literature distribution and pin badge sales, as well as organising refreshments and meetings.
Local group committee member Barry Proffitt said: "This couple have provided a constant and invaluable service to our group over the years and their efforts will be greatly missed." To mark their achievements, a framed painting and large bouquet of flowers were presented on behalf of the group by RSPB Regional Volunteering Development Officer, Emma Droy who praised the couple for their years of dedication.
The RSPB Local Group is now planning a series of events to attract new members and in the New Year will launch its own website as a direct link from the RSPB national site. Any enquiries regarding meetings or outings with the group can be directed to Barry Proffitt via the contact button.
