Bank Holiday successes
A Tawny Owl hoots, not far away by the sound of it. I'm standing in a dark car park on Saturday morning with Teresa from neighbouring South Staffs Group. We are waiting for our joint venture Dawn Chorus walk participants. The local papers had printed the press release announcing the event but you can never be sure if peope will turn up. By 4.30 our group was 12 strong so off we strolled. One lady declared that this was an ambition finally fulfilled after years of waiting. We had to hope the birds would oblige! Fortunately the Robins and Blackbirds were in fine voice, soon followed by the Blue and Great Tits, Chaffinches and lots of Wrens. The woods were alive with birdsong, giving Teresa a chance to point out the characters. Two Song Thrushes were having a competition, Blackcap sang, in the distance a Cuckoo called. As the morning sky lightened so we were able to look for the birds and point them out in books to our newcomers. Marsh Tit was a real surprise. A pair of Nuthatches were active in the treetops and we located a Willow Warbler- a bird new to my local list. Dunnock and House Sparrow rounded off a successful morning. Back home for a cuppa and a snooze!
Sunday- football in bright sunshine at Molineux. Wolves 1 Doncaster 0. Now promoted, Wolves received Championship trophy. Great day.
Monday 4th May. Bantock House, Wolverhampton. Grey and damp day. Several volunteers turn out to fundraise, selling pin badges, balloons and some donated books. Despite tough economic times for the town we sold £40 of pin badges and raised about the same with balloons and badge making. Sold a membership and got some name gathering cards. No trophies, but a few more coins for the RSPB coffers. Not a bad effort.

A Bit of a Do
RSPB Wolverhampton Group have been invited to exhibit at the May Bank Holiday event "A Bit of a Do" which is being held at Bantock House on Monday May 4th. The Group will offer badge making, balloons, pin badge sales and all the usual guidance and expert advice people expect of the RSPB. In addition the Group will be offering for sale a collection of pre-owned bird books and videos. Worth a look!

Dawn Chorus- joint venture
RSPB Wolverhampton Group and RSPB South Staffordshire Group have co-operated to organise and lead a Dawn Chorus walk for the "Wild About Perton" group. Leaving from Perton Library at 04.30 on Saturday May 2nd this 2 -3 hour walk will take in local lakeside and woodland habitats. Donations will be forwarded to the RSPB.
