Titchwell wanderings

View over lagoon, Titchwell Marsh RSPB reserve

Sunday, 11 May 2008

Titchwell in May- a trip which is joyfully anticipated by all but with the knowledge that it is four hours or so each way on the coach. Fortunately our regular coach driver is very skilled and the journey was smooth and relaxing. We even saw a Red Kite as we travelled along the A14 near Kettering.

Yet again we were lucky with the weather. Warm and dry, with little breeze except by the sea. Glorious. The birds could not have behaved better for us. Most of the Group were able to get views of Bearded Tits flitting about. Reed, Willow and Sedge Warblers were everywhere. Little Gulls in profusion, Common Gulls, Common Tern, Little Tern- all delighted the watchers. Turnstones and Whimbrel, even Red Crested Pochard were on show. To many however, the memorable sight of the day was that of four Marsh Harriers in the air simultaneously, stunningly lit in the sunshine and gliding majestically across those big Norfolk skies.
