For those who have yet to experience the delights of a visit to Havergate Island, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Avocets, which returned here in 1947 after an absence from the UK of almost 100 years, still abound and can be seen along with numerous other waders, ducks, geese and raptors. There is also a resident hare population which keeps the visitor amused between hides.
If you are not an expert birdwatcher, do not despair. These trips to Havergate, which run every half hour from 10.00am until 2.30pm from Orford Quay, allow 2 hours on the Island with a guide to assist with identification and information. Binoculars are available on free loan and refreshment may be purchased on the Island. The whole trip takes 2 hours 40 minutes.
As has been said, this has proved to be a very popular event and places may be booked on the Quay at Orford from 20th August. Alternatively places may be booked in advance by telephoning 01394 385209 on or after Monday, 1st August.
How to get there
