Work Party Bonus
For a few years now, the Group has been helping on Snape Warren Reserve. The owner has asked the RSPB to manage this site, which is badly overgrown with birch and gorse. A lot has been cleared, and the heather is recovering. A small group of us managed to clear more of the huge gorse bushes last Friday 20th Nov. Whilst settling down to eat our sandwiches, a shout from Graham, the Havergate Warden, made us look up. A merlin was carrying out amazing aerobatics chasing a skylark. It didn't suceed, and flew off towards the river. This was, I believe, the first time a merlin had been seen on the reserve.

Wildlife of Florida, Central America & Canada
We were entertained last night with an excellent talk by Edwina Beaumont including a collection of stunning photographs of birds, animals, plants and scenery depicting the environment and inhabitants of Florida, Canada and Arizona. The presentation was even more remarkable considering that Edwina was given less than two days notice following the withdrawal of our intended speaker due to ill health and that a number of her photos were taken only a week ago!
Many thanks, Edwina, for such an entertaining evening.
