In the early hours of 10th May members of the Woodbridge Local Group set off to catch the 6.00am flight from Heathrow for their journey to Sofia, Bulgaria where they were to enjoy ten days birdwatching along the Turkish border and the Black Sea coast.
The weather was reasonable, accommodation and food was good and enjoyed by most, the leader was brilliant and our driver excellent. The latter seemed to have built-in radar for all the rough sections of road (there were many) and drove accordingly, thus increasing our comfort.
In addition the scenery was stunning and we saw some 199 species of birds along with sousliks, dolphins, harbour porpoise and snakes. Even the squirrels appeared to differ from our own in that their colouring was dark, almost black.
The journey home was long and tiring but all returned with happy memories of a most enjoyable holiday.
A full report will appear in our autumn magazine.
