Group trip to Ireland

Puffin perched on rock, Isle of May

Thursday, 29 May 2008

18 members have just returned from a holiday in Ireland, visiting Rathlin Island and the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland and Benbug and Tory Island in the Irish Republic. They were blessed with sunny weather throughout most of their stay, although as is usually the case with coastal areas there was a continuous wind which kept the temperature down.
Tory Island is famous for its corncrakes and it did not dissapoint, with clear views for all members of the Group. In all some 129 species of bird were seen, not to mention various sea creatures and land mammals. Another highlight was the story of the dog and the dolphin, but more of that and details of the various places visited and birds and other wildlife seen will appear in our Autumn magazine.
