Haweswater RSPB Reserve
We need volunteers who are keen to join our small reserve team with a real enthusiasm for making a positive change in the English uplands. Work involves dry stone walling, repair and maintenance of fences and farm buildings, helping in our tree nursery, species monitoring and you'll regularly find yourself surrounded by dramatic, breathtaking scenery.
You'll become a vital part of our team, helping us to manage our large reserve in the Lake District National Park to benefit wildlife, water quality and people. You will have many opportunities to immerse yourself in the landscape while carrying out important estate management and monitoring work. You will develop a range of practical skills, including dry stone walling and help with the running of our farm. You will live in our traditional Lakeland farmhouse, surrounded by wooded hills and gain a valuable insight into the workings of Europe's largest conservation charity.
You will need to be enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work as part of a team. Your interest in conservation will mean that you are happy to to undertake strenuous manual labour outside in all weathers with long walks over steep terrain. You will be comfortable living in a remote location in shared self-catering accommodationYour own transport is essential and you must be 18 or over.
