Freiston Shore
Visit The Wash for year-round practical work at the UK's most important estuary for birds
The mudflats, saltmarsh, wet grassland and saline lagoons of The Wash are home to thousands of birds.
And on a field trip to Frieston Shore, they'll also be home to your pupils as they explore this fascinating landscape, and delve deep into food chains and adaptation.
With a series of sensory activities younger pupils are encouraged to look, feel and listen to the things going on around them, and create sculptures on the shore and watercolour paintings in the hide.
Secondary students will be able to practise their fieldwork skills exploring the saltmarsh, collecting and analysing data from this rare habitat.
The reserve also has a rich history that matches its wildlife - it was a Victorian seaside resort and also formed part of the UK's Second World War coastal defence.
It's well known, too, as one of the first UK sites to use an important and innovative method of flood defence management known as 'managed realignment'.
