The RSPB is inviting families to come down to its Wild Weymouth Discovery Centre over the half term week and help them build a hotel for bugs.
This strange request is part of a week where staff and volunteers are encouraging visitors to build lots of different sorts of homes for wildlife; some for the reserve and some to take away.
Rob Farrington, speaking for the RSPB in Dorset said: “It’s great to give wildlife a helping hand, whether it is boxes for birds, bats or bugs – and its really easy to do. The hotel for bugs is basically just a huge pile of old sticks and leaves which, as they rot, provide a perfect home for all our wonderful creepy crawlies.
“We’d love to see lots of people, young or old, down at the visitor centre at Radipole Lake over the holidays learning what can be done, and of course having lots of fun!’
The activities will be inside the RSPB Wild Weymouth Discovery Centre in the Swannery car park and are running from Saturday 27th October until Sunday 4th November - drop in anytime between 10am and 3pm.
