About

Suffolk is famous for the return of the avocet to breed at Havergate Island and Minsmere, the latter now the RSPB’s flagship reserve and a stronghold of the endangered bittern.

At Lakenheath Fen, the RSPB has transformed carrot fields to a wetland nature reserve attracting bearded tits and cranes.

Fields and heaths in the Brecks are home to stone-curlews. Clearings in Thetford Forest are strongholds for woodlarks and nightjars, as are the coastal forest and Sandlings heaths.
