Ribble Discovery Centre
Helping others and learning something new will be on the top of many people’s New Year’s resolution lists this January. This year, RSPB staff at the Ribble Discovery Centre at Fairhaven Lake, near Lytham St Annes, are providing an ideal opportunity to do these two things, as well as stepping up for nature at the same time.
They need volunteers to join their friendly team in the visitor and education centre, to welcome visitors of all ages and excite people about the wonderful wildlife of the Ribble Estuary and how the RSPB is saving nature.
There is a lovely gift shop on site, which is full of things to help wildlife, so volunteers are also needed to serve visitors and provide advice about feeding garden birds.
Julie Vale, visitor officer said: “You don’t have to be a bird expert, all you need is to be good with people and have lots of enthusiasm about wildlife and want to share that with others. If you are able to give a few hours a week that would be great.”
To find out more about these volunteering opportunities please phone 01253 796292 or pop into the centre to have a chat with Julie.
The RSPB are calling for people to ‘Step up for Nature’ as part of their national campaign to help our wildlife that is disappearing at an alarming rate. If we all help and get stuck in we can make a real difference and save our wildlife.
The RSPB has over 17,000 volunteers across the UK that last year gave over a million hours to the cause. Volunteers are involved in almost every aspect of the RSPB’s work, in the UK and internationally. From volunteer wardens on reserves to undertaking surveys of farmland birds; raising money in the local community to repairing and recycling binoculars for use by our BirdLife partners across the globe. The Ribble Discovery Centre is run in partnership by the RSPB and Fylde Borough Council. It is free to visit and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information and to find out what’s on in 2012 please visit: www.rspb.org.uk/ribblediscoverycentre.
What can I do?
Join over 9,000 RSPB people and volunteer for the RSPB. Whatever your background we probably have an opportunity for you - even if you do not know much about birds.
