The RSPB Farmhouse meeting rooms at the heart of Old Moor nature reserve in South Yorkshire have been shortlisted for an award in the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2012.

The meeting rooms, which were refurbished during last winter, are one of 50 organisations to make it through to the final stages from almost 150 entries. They will be up against four other organisations in their category for the Premier Waste & Recycling Environmental Business Award.

Andi Beardshall, conference and education coordinator at RSPB Old Moor, said: “We’re very excited to have received this recognition for the meeting rooms, as we all do our best to deliver a friendly and welcoming environment.”

The RSPB Farmhouse meeting rooms are run with the environment in mind, with power generated in a sustainable way through a wind turbine, solar panels and a bio-fuel boiler. Farmhouse staff also try to use as many recycled, organic and Fair Trade products as possible.

With the tagline ‘different space for a meeting place’, the meeting rooms are situated in a 250 acre nature reserve and provide bespoke packages for organisations and groups looking for a slightly more unusual conference facility.

The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony on 19 October at Rotherham’s Magna Science Adventure Centre. And an overall winner will be chosen for the Royal Bank of Scotland Business of the Year Award.
