Generous locals in the Banbridge area helped raise £810.32 for the Together For Trees campaign, part of the RSPB and Tesco Stores Ltd partnership.    The two day, nationwide collection meant vital funds were raised to help save endangered species such as the Sumatran Tiger and the Rhinoceros Hornbill through  the RSPB’s conservation and restoration work in rainforests.

Tesco Stores Ltd created the ‘Help Save a Rainforest’ coupon which allows customers to donate their Green Clubcard points to this campaign.  The coupon only needs to be scanned at the till point once and will ensure that all future Green Clubcard points are donated to RSPB.

Collection team leader Annette Downey said of the collection, “The staff and customers of Tesco Banbridge were so generous, especially at a time when money is tight for everyone.  It was great to see so much support for RSPB and their partnership with Tesco.  Their Green Clubcard Coupons were a great talking point.  It is fantastic to know that Tesco will donate 1p every time a customer reuses their own bags once they have scanned their Together For Trees coupon.”

Senior Community Fundraising Officer Laura Thomson thanked staff and customers from Tesco Banbridge for their support: “RSPB Northern Ireland has been completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the people in the area who showed us their full support during our collection weekend. Tropical rainforests keep the air we breathe clean, cool and safe but areas the size of a football pitch are being destroyed every four seconds.  The money raised instore is vital to our work in the rainforests at a time when they need our help the most.  Thank you all for your support!”
