Trick or Tweet for Wildlife at RSPB Sandwell Valley this HalloweenLast modified: 14 October 2009
The RSPB is inviting families and children to play trick or tweet with a busy programme of half term fun on their Sandwell Valley nature reserve this month. Surrounded by hedgerows that are buzzing with birds in autumn and overlooking Forge Mill Lake which attract ducks and wading birds, the RSPB’s Sandwell Valley nature reserve is a fantastic setting for youth to have a fantastic time. On Sunday 25 October, families can take part in celebrations for the RSPB’s Feed the Birds Day at a Halloween fiendish feeding frenzy event between 1 pm and 4 pm. There will be the chance for children to make their own freaky feeders, creepy cakes and eerie edible pictures. Also, find out what to do with your spare pumpkin seeds. During the half-team week, the RSPB’s team of experienced field teachers are hosting a holiday wildlife club for children and teenagers. The holiday wildlife club helps children and young people discover about wildlife and the natural world through art, games and exciting outdoor activities, including wildlife watching and pond dipping. The theme for the 5-11 year olds is ‘Fruits and Hoots’, and the youngsters can have fun with a mix of outdoor exploration, games and craftwork in the Visitor Centre classroom. Activities for teenagers (12-14 years olds) include birdwatching (looking for the arrival of winter migrants), orienteering, basic site management work, games and craftwork. The Wildlife Holiday Club sessions are: · Tuesday 27th October for 5-7 years · Thursday 29th October for 8-11 years · Friday 30th October for 12-14 years. Malcolm Evans who’s the Education Officer at RSPB Sandwell Valley said: “The wildlife club is a great way for young people to explore and discover more about nature while having lots of fun and making new friends.” Each session will run from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Costs are £12.00 per day for each child (£10.00 for RSPB Wildlife Explorer Club members). The Feed the Birds Day event on 25 October is free but there’s a small charge for feeders.
