Countdown to 2010 timeline
This 'timeline for action' counts down to 2010 and outlines the key decisions and actions that we believe should take place if the government is to meet its target of halting the loss of biodiversity by 2010.
Will the Government live up to to these commitments? The clock is ticking and biodiversity is being lost. The time for action is now.
December 2005

- Network of OSPAR (The Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic) Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to include nationally important sites should be in place
February 2010
- All Natura 2000 marine sites should have management objectives in place
March 2010
- 100% of the public estate (Government and local authority owned land) should have biodiversity management plans or prescriptions
April 2010
- 95% of SSSIs in England to be in favourable condition
