Countryside and Rights of Way Act

The Countryside (or CRoW) Act 2000 is the most important wildlife legislation for England and Wales since the Wildlife and Countryside Act of two decades ago.

Passage of this legislation was the focus of the RSPB's Land for Life Campaign. This sought better conservation of our wildlife sites of greatest importance: Sites of Special Scientific Interest: both laws to protect them from damaging development, but also measures to require their positive management.

The provisions of the Act extend beyond just SSSIs, so what does it contain and what are its implications for wildlife and people?
