Over the past two years, the RSPB has established a wide-ranging partnership of 18 Scottish organisations to raise awareness of children's decreasing contact with the real world.

RSPB Scotland, as part of the Real World Learning Partnership, has been working with the Scottish Government and Parliament to halt the decline in outdoor learning and ensure teachers and pupils discover the natural world.

We have also been working with Scottish Government and others on mechanisms for supporting delivery of the sustainable development education content in Curriculum for Excellence. Understanding the importance of biodiversity and the environment, as part of sustainable development, has now been recognised as one of the key aims of school education.

We will continue to play our part in championing the role of first hand experience in learning about the importance of the environment, and in bringing greater understanding of biodiversity and sustainable development to all pupils in Scotland's schools.
