Saving seabirds globally
The RSPB works internationally to help protect seabirds and the marine environment. The RSPB hosts and supports BirdLife International's Global Seabird Programme. A key focus of this programme is the Save the Albatross campaign, which is working to prevent the unnecessary deaths of albatrosses and other seabirds which are being caught as bycatch in fisheries. In its contribution to this Save the Albatross campaign, the RSPB carries out research on albatross population trends and distribution at sea as well as their interaction with fishing fleets and fisheries management. We develop policy to promote worldwide adoption of seabird-friendly fishing methods by raising awareness among fishermen and the wider public, and by working with governments and other decision makers to shape and build international co-operation, most recently through the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP).
