BirdLife position statement on wind farms and birds

This BirdLife Position Statement focuses on the EU and its relevant legislative instruments, but it could be applied in all countries that are signatories to the Bern Convention too, as the underlying principles are just as relevant. Therefore, BirdLife Partners in the respective countries are invited to adopt this position.

RSPB Scotland in conjunction with Friends of the Earth Scotland and WWF Scotland have produced a report showing that it is possible to have a clean, green energy supply in Scotland. The analysis shows that Scotland could phase out all fossil fuel and nuclear power by 2030, maintain a secure electricity supply and generate significant revenue from renewable exports.

Breeding birds and wind farms guidance note

This review summarises research by James Pearce-Higgins et al. (2009) examining the displacement of several breeding upland bird species and foraging raptors by wind turbines and associated infrastructure. It also provides advice on dealing with wind farm proposals that may have impacts on upland birds.
